Belmont's Curse PC Launch Fixes and Deck Issues

Follow KONAMI’s V-Sync launch workaround, distinguish Steam Deck UI cropping, and check the supported-language fix for a blocked title page.

Quick answer

For the published Steam/Xbox PC V-Sync-off and Unlimited-FPS launch issue, temporarily lower the Windows display rate below 60 Hz, enable V-Sync in the game, close it, then restore the original display rate. Match the symptom before trying this.

Match the symptom before changing settings

If Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will not launch on Steam or Xbox on PC, first check whether you previously disabled V-Sync and selected Unlimited FPS. KONAMI’s October 14 notice identifies that combination as a launch-failure condition. Its workaround is to temporarily lower the Windows display refresh rate below 60 Hz, enter the game’s settings, switch V-Sync on, close the game, and restore the monitor’s original refresh rate.

This page follows KONAMI’s notice and the Microsoft display-settings instructions linked from it, checked October 16, 2026. It covers three published issues: that PC launch condition, partially off-screen Steam Deck interface elements, and a title-screen problem associated with certain system languages. Check the current notice after a patch; the three symptoms call for different responses.

Choose the right branch

What you see Affected platforms in the notice Start here
Game fails to launch after V-Sync was disabled and FPS set to Unlimited Steam and Xbox on PC The temporary refresh-rate procedure below
Some interface elements extend partly beyond the screen Steam Deck The Deck UI issue section; KONAMI was investigating a fix
Cannot continue past the title page after saving and returning to it, with a certain system language PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and Xbox on PC The supported-system-language workaround

The first row concerns starting the application, while the third concerns moving past its title page. That distinction can save you from repeatedly changing display settings for a language-related problem. If your symptom does not match a row, collect its exact message and context rather than treating this notice as a universal crash fix.

Step 1: Record the display settings you will restore

Before changing the refresh rate, open Windows Settings and note the current rate for the monitor used by the game. If you use more than one display, check the selected monitor carefully. Microsoft explains that the Advanced display information panel identifies the display’s current resolution and refresh rate.

You need that original value because KONAMI’s procedure ends by restoring it. The temporary below-60-Hz choice is a way to reach the game settings in this specific failure scenario; it is not a recommendation to leave your display at a lower rate for normal play. Recording the selected monitor and original setting makes the final restoration straightforward.

Refresh rate and game frame rate are different settings in this procedure. Windows changes how often the display refreshes; the game’s Video Settings controls V-Sync and its frame-rate option. Changing only a game FPS preference elsewhere is not the Windows display step described by the publisher.

Step 2: Temporarily select an available rate below 60 Hz

On Windows 11, follow Settings → System → Display → Advanced display. Check that the intended display is selected, then use Choose a refresh rate. On Windows 10, Microsoft’s instructions use Advanced display settings and a Refresh rate list, with a display selector when multiple monitors are attached.

Choose a supported value below 60 Hz as requested by KONAMI. The choices depend on your display. Microsoft also notes that an asterisk beside a listed rate can indicate that selecting it will change the resolution. Read the displayed option before confirming it, particularly if another monitor is connected.

If your display exposes no supported rate below 60 Hz, the notice does not provide a custom-mode procedure. Do not invent one from this guide. Record that limitation for support instead of forcing an unsupported resolution or assuming that exactly 60 Hz satisfies a requirement stated as below 60 Hz.

Step 3: Enter the game and enable V-Sync

After applying the temporary Windows setting, launch Belmont’s Curse. If you can reach the title screen, open Settings, then Video Settings, and turn V-Sync ON. Close the game after making that change, following the order in the official notice.

Now return to Windows Advanced display and restore the monitor’s original refresh rate. Check the selected display again before applying the saved value. Launch the game once more and see whether the specific startup failure is resolved. The successful checkpoint is normal launching after the original display rate has been restored, rather than merely getting one attempt to start at the temporary rate.

KONAMI says to contact its customer-support service if the issue persists after multiple attempts. Keep the sequence and result available for that report: your platform, whether you used the affected V-Sync/FPS combination, the available Windows refresh-rate options, and whether you reached Video Settings. There is no need to include passwords or payment details.

When the problem is Steam Deck UI cropping

KONAMI separately reports that some interface elements can appear partially off-screen on Steam Deck. The notice says a fix is being investigated. It does not provide a verified Deck-specific adjustment, a Proton-version recommendation, or a launch-option command for that issue.

Check whether your difficulty is a cropped interface element while the game is running, rather than the PC startup condition described above. Note which element is affected and whether it prevents you reading an instruction or selecting an option. That description is more useful to support than calling every display symptom a launch crash.

A screenshot can help describe the UI problem when contacting support through the appropriate channel. Check the current publisher notice for a patch update before applying advice written for the launch version. This page does not recommend changing unrelated Deck system settings as though KONAMI had supplied a tested fix.

When the title page problem follows a system-language setting

The third notice concerns players who save the game, quit back to the title page, and then cannot move past that page. It identifies certain system languages, mainly Arabic, as the affected condition. The publisher’s workaround is to change the system language to another supported language, giving English as an example, to continue with existing save data.

Pay attention to the word system. The notice is not merely an instruction to change subtitle text inside an already accessible game menu. Follow the language-setting controls for your platform, then retry the existing save. The notice does not tell you to delete that save or begin a new adventure.

If you are also moving from the demo to the full game, keep that separate from this symptom. Demo transfer has its own same-platform, same-account and update requirements, covered in the demo save-transfer guide. Replacing a save is not a substitute for checking which issue you actually encountered.

Keep the final result and the next action clear

After trying a relevant published workaround, record whether the original symptom changed. For the PC procedure, confirm both that V-Sync is now on and that you restored the monitor’s original rate. For the title-page issue, record whether changing to a supported system language let you continue the existing save. For Deck cropping, distinguish a publisher investigation from a workaround that has actually been announced.

Use the KONAMI notice as the current reference and its support link if the matching procedure does not help. Once the game is running, the beginner guide covers the actual movement and progression systems. This keeps troubleshooting focused on getting you back into the adventure, with a clear stopping point when the published procedure no longer answers your situation.

Route

Step-by-step guide

  1. Match the published symptom

Separate a PC application launch failure from Steam Deck UI cropping and a system-language-related title-page problem.

  2. Apply the relevant official procedure

For the specified PC condition, record the original Windows display rate and follow KONAMI’s temporary-rate and V-Sync sequence.

  3. Restore and verify

Restore the monitor’s original refresh rate, retry the game, and use KONAMI support if the documented procedure does not resolve the matching issue.
